Central Transport Training Courses

Here you will find details of the full range of our courses and if you are particularly interested in obtaining an LGV or PCV driving entitlement.

In January 1997 legislation changed and all new drivers were required to take and pass a DSA Theory test before practical driver training could commence and a driving test is taken. (Those existing drivers that already held a LGV Category "C" entitlement (HGV Class 2/3) were exempted from taking the theory test.)

In addition, the new regulations stipulated that drivers must hold a LGV Category "C" entitlement before undertaking the LGV C+E (HGV Class 1) driving test.

Before applying for your provisional licence you will need to have a medical examination. A D4 - DVLA Medical Report must be completed by a qualified General Practitioner at the time of the examination.

If you decide to use your own GP you will be charged between £40.00 - £100.00 for the examination, however if you prefer we can arrange a medical for you with our own GP at greatly reduced cost.

Once your medical report has been completed you will also need to complete form D2 - Application for a Driving Licence.

Both forms, together with your current driving licence and the appropriate fee, should then be sent to the DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BR.

Please note, your provisional driving licence can take up to three weeks to be returned.

As soon as your licence is returned we will then arrange a free, no obligation, Driving Aptitude Assessment which will enable us to decide with you the most appropriate course to suit your particular requirements.

Having agreed the best course of action we will then arrange with you suitable times and dates to start your training.

If you require your training to be conducted at weekends we will need as much notice as possible as weekends are always in great demand. (Weekend courses are no more expensive than weekdays.)

Before your practical driver training can commence you will need to study for and successfully undertake a DSA LGV or PCV Theory Test. The theory test comprises of a hazard perception element and 60 multiple choice questions of which you must answer a minimum of 51 correctly to achieve a pass.

When you book your driver training course with us we will make all the necessary arrangements, book tests etc and also supply a home study pack in order for you to study or revise for your theory test.

Once you have successfully passed the theory test your driver training can commence which will prepare you for the DSA Practical Driving test, during which your standard of driving will be assessed by a DSA Approved Driving Examiner.

Our reputation and success rests upon the quality of training and we always strive to ensure that we train our candidates to a higher level above that of the minimum standards required.

You can be assured that every effort will be made to help you pass. However, in the unlikely event of you not reaching the required standard by the end of your course, we will agree with you what additional training you may need to meet the required standard.

If you require more information or wish to book a course with us please do not hesitate to contact us.
